We try to keep everything in glass containers... It keeps everything more tidy, and it also just looks nicer. lol
My grandmother used to have a glass cookie jar similar to this one:
I broke it when I was 6 yrs old. lol
Anyways, my parents kept there milk and juices in glass jars as well (Gallon jugs are just so bulky, especially when its half empty, etc.
We put them in containers like this. The caps we had were like a rubber lid
(almost like tupperwear lids)
We keep our cereal in jars as well, along with Flour, sugar, and other baking products.
At my house, I always would put Belle's gourmet dog treats in a nice glass jar and keep it on the counter. They looked so nice! Emma also had her own jar, with treats she liked.. like muffins, cookies, twizzlers, whatever I decided to fill the jar up with that week.
During the holidays, like Halloween, Xmas, Easter, I always have a jar that we put candy in. It just looks so pretty in a jar!
People even use jars as centerpieces, etc.
You can also use them for cotton, qtips, etc.
Or look at this: lemonade in a jar! Gorgeous!
I just think it makes things so much neater.
We have TONS of jars in our cabinets, etc. and like I said, once a holiday comes around we display candy jars on our counters with the holiday colors, etc.
I was watching food network the other night and they were talking about the milkmen that used to come around, giving milk in jars. My mom said that she remembered them doing that (she is only like 43) and how nice it used to be.
If you think about all the plastic and paper that gets used with the dairy industry its almost sad that they don't still do it anymore. Firstly, how convenient would it STILL be not to have to run to the store for milk? How nice to have it delivered! Plus, it would be saving so many products by using glass bottles that are REUSABLE!
Of course it would probably be using more transportation, which wouldn't be good for the environment, so I guess there is just no way to truly win.
I did find however, that some still DO exist! None where I live though! If so, I would totally have me a milkman!
Maybe sometime tomorrow Ill post pics of all of our food in Jars. lol
