Church Class

http://blog.newsok.com/religionandvalues/files/2008/08/candycane.jpg
So, I am a teacher for 3 yr olds every Wed. for bible school. Well, I have been thinking of ideas for next week (this week we cut out pictures out of magazines of things god has made for us, things we are thankful for etc.)

Well, next week I have decided to do a class discussing what Candy Canes symbolize, and what they mean, etc.

Here is some info I found that I am going to send home with them with their candy cane:

The Story Of the Candy Cane

Legend has it that in the 18th Century somewhere in Europe any public display of Christianity was forbidden. No crosses or Bibles were allowed and the Christians were greatly oppressed. One old man, a candy maker by profession, was particularly distressed by this. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and couldn't stand to not share that love with the world. His heart especially went out to the children when Christmas drew near and no one was allowed to have a nativity scene (or crèche`) on display in their homes. He prayed for God to show him some way to make Christmas gifts for the children which would teach them the story of Christ.

The answer was the candy cane. The candy cane was in the shape of a shepherd"s staff to show them Jesus is our Shepherd and we are His flock. A sheep follows his own shepherd, knows his voice, and trusts him and knows that he is totally safe with him. The sheep will follow no other shepherd but their own. This is how we are to be with Jesus if we truly follow Him ( John 10:11; Psalm 23:1; Isaiah 40:11)

Upside down the candy cane was a "J", the first letter of Jesus' name. ( Luke 1:31) It was made of hard candy to remind us that Christ is the rock of our salvation. The wide red stripes on the candy cane were to represent the blood He shed on the cross for each one of us so that we can have eternal life through Him. He redeems us and cleanses us with His shed blood - the only thing that can wash away our sin. ( Luke 22:20) . The white stripes on a candy cane represented the virgin birth, sinless life and purity of our Lord. He is the only human being who ever lived on this earth who never committed a single sin. Even though He was tempted just as we are, He never sinned. ( I Peter: 22) The three narrow red stripes on candy canes symbolized that by His stripes, or wounds, we are healed and the Trinity - the Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit. Before the crucifixion Jesus was beaten; the crown of thorns was placed on His head; His back was raw from the whip. We are healed by those wounds. He bore our sorrows and by His stripes we are healed. ( Isaiah 53:3) The flavoring in the candy cane was peppermint, which is similar to hyssop. Hyssop is of the mint family and was used in Old Testament times for purification and sacrifice just as Jesus sacrificed His life for ours. ( John 19:29; Psalm 51:7)

The old candy maker told them that when we break our candy cane it reminds us that Jesus' body was broken for us. When we have communion it is a reminder of what He did for us. ( I Cor. 11:24) If we share our candy cane and give some to someone else in love because we want to, it represents that same love of Jesus because He is to be shared with one another in love. ( I John 4:7,8) God gave Himself to us when He sent Jesus. He loved us so much He wants us to spend eternal life with Him... which we can do if we accept Jesus in our hearts as Savior and Lord. ( John 1:12; John 3:3,16) Some people believe this story of the candy cane is just a legend. Others believe it really happened. We do not know for sure exactly how the candy cane was invented, but there is one thing for certain... it is an excellent picture of Christ and His love for you.

I thought it would be cute to make little ornaments in the shape of candy canes with white and red glitter on them as well.

I have a pattern with a candle in a windowsill, and I thought it would be cute to have the kids decorate it with glitter, like make the candle have red glitter on it, and the flame with gold glitter.
Not sure..

Something for Advent would be good too... hmmm....

Love Love Love her.

Shakira!

I wish I could dance like her, and I wish I had her body!!!!
She is beautiful!

Books

I was reading the Love Comes Softly Series which has a total of 8 books to the series, the last one I completed lastnight. I couldn't put these books down.

I just finished a GREAT book, the diary of Marie Antoinette. It was wonderful! I read it in two days. lol

I plan on reading another Marie Antoinette book, which is about 600 pages long ! Eeek It might take me FOREVER!!!

I am going to take a break from that and reread Island of the Blue Dolphins. I should be able to finish it this week, and take the Marie Antoinette book with me to Indiana, and Ohio.

I love reading. I hadn't read much in years, and finally a few months ago decided to start again!
I am so glad I did, its so calming, and I find it very enjoyable.
Especially when the topic is historical. LOVE it!

Mini Vacay

Me and Emma will be going back home to Indiana, so she can visit her father, and her grandparents. I am not excited about this trip, however, it will be very nice to see friends that I haven't seen in awhile!

I plan on going for 4 days maybe. I will be staying one night in the town I lived, then I will be going to Chicago to visit my sister. It will be so hard for me to leave Emma with her father.. She doesn't really like being around him, so it will break my heart leaving her there! Going to Chicago will take my mind off of it I am sure. I can take the train there, and not have to worry about driving.

Afterwards I plan on driving over to Ohio so I can see my family!! I might meet up with friends while I am there too!! Oh how much I miss Ohio!

I can't wait to be back there, and go to my favorite restaurants too!
I don' think we will make our way back to Missouri for a week, or more.

On the way to Indiana, I really want to stop in Hannibal, MO
(Home of Mark Twain .. Huckleberry Finn)

I have been wanting to visit the town. Its a really old town sitting along the Mississippi River between Missouri and Illinois. There is a museum there, and caves. I think it would probably be nicer to see it when its NOT so cold, but we will be passing it, so we might as well just stop.

I'll definitely be sure to post pics when its finished. I bet shell want to eat it right away..lol

ok, I know I am WAY early...

But I am already planning Emma's birthday

Emma wants to go to Chuck E Cheese... She tells me just about every other day lately becuase It was my brothers bday last month, my papas bday today, my moms bday in just a few days, so shes getting real restless becuase her bday is soooo far away (6 months) lol

I am going to make her cake this year! I am soooo excited. Its going to be AMAZING.
I want her party to be disney princess themed, and I plan on making her a cake like this:

I have a TON of time. Im not too worried at this point, but I am really sure its going to be princess themed. lol Why I think of these things 6 months in advance is beyond me. I love stressing myself out, I swear. lol

I'm even thinking about buying a airbrush cake decorating kit.
They are like $160 dollars, but Its not I would just use it for one cake...

Edels mom has one at her bakery and they are sooo fun. lol

Bad Girls Club/ The City

The new season starts tomorrow.

http://www.oxygen.com/tvshows/badgirls/meet/

I think I am going to try and watch it. I just need to remember. I watched the first season and liked it, the second season I just wasn't interested.

Hopefully it will be good!! I am excited to watch this, and the new show on MTV, The City, with Whitney. I am really excited for that becuase the Hills is just sooooooo stupid at this point. Its always the same stuff and hardly exciting.

I really like her. I think she is the most real person on the show. She is sweet, and I think she is a breath of fresh air when watching the show. I can't wait to watch her in NY! The trailer looks soooo good.

College

Ok, so I have been totally stressing these past few weeks becuase I want to go to college, etc.

Well, I have decided something. I am going to start working again. I don't like Missouri. At all. I want to move back to Ohio. I am going to apply at a college in Dayton for Fall.

Until then, I am going to look for work- which will probably be waitressing but I want to save up some money so I can get out of here. My mom will be very upset, but I cant live unhappy anymore. I miss having my own place... friends, and having a LIFE.

I have family in ohio, and I was making friends there too. (I was born there lived there until I was 8, then moved to indiana and moved back to ohio when I was 20)

Anyways- This is the best decision for me. Why go to a college here if I really dont LIKE IT here? The college here is great- I probably will get in, but the commute would suck, and moving to the town the college in is OUT of the question- its a SMALL town, with like NOTHING there.

Its just not me. I have known this for such a long time, and I have been looking for reasons to start liking it here, etc. but really, why not just go back somewhere that I LOVE. I LOVED dayton. I did

I can't worry about hurting my parents' feelings. I have to make decisions for myself, and moving here in the first place was solely to make my parents happy.

I can still visit here on breaks, etc. but I need to live my life. Im sure theyll understand, but be sad at the same time, but its just something I have to do.

I am seriously on cloud 9. I have been avoiding the real issue for such a long time, and now I feel content with my decision!
